Keeps Tax Cuts, Balances the Budget, and Gives Teachers a Pay Raise

RALEIGH – Americans for Prosperity – North Carolina applauded the budget signed today by Governor McCrory, and passed by the General Assembly, for keeping scheduled 2015 tax cuts in place, balancing the budget, and giving a raise to the state’s teachers. The state’s leading grassroots organization says the budget shows that fiscal responsibility, low taxes, and well-funded essential services are simultaneously achievable goals.

“Governor McCrory and the General Assembly are to be commended for passing a budget that let’s taxpayers keep the money they were promised last year, is balanced, and still funds priorities like teacher pay raises,” explained Donald Bryson, Deputy State Director of Americans for Prosperity. “Some people say that we can’t pay our teachers well and keep taxes low. That’s baloney, and our hard-working legislators have proven it for the fourth year in a row, funding essential services and returning money to the taxpayers.

Fiscal responsibility may not be easy, but it’s the right thing, and we rightly applaud them for doing their jobs. We look forward to our state’s continued economic growth as business owners and investors recognize that the state is not going to waste their money and then sock them with higher taxes. We hope the naysayers are willing to recognize the good that has been accomplished and reconsider their assumptions in future years.”
