Group to testify on removing barriers for Wisconsinites

Madison, WI – Americans for Prosperity-Wisconsin (AFP-WI) is calling on the members of the Assembly Committee on Regulatory Licensing Reform and the Senate Committee on Public Benefits, Licensing, and State-Federal Relations to pass SB296/AB370 out of committee.

The bill “Wisconsin Certified,” SB296/AB370 would allow for self-certification for Wisconsin workers. In contrast to occupational licenses, which create many barriers to opportunity, certification provides many of the benefits of a license, without some of the negative effects.

AFP-WI Deputy State Director, Annette Olson released the following statement:

“The Senate has an opportunity to help entrepreneurs and business not just survive in this tough economic climate, but to thrive. Occupational licensing is a major barrier to opportunity in Wisconsin.  We want to thank Senator Alberta Darling and Representative Rob Hutton for sponsoring this bill, and want to thank the Chairmen Chris Kapenga and Representative Cody Horlacher for furthering this discussion. It has been proven over and over again that consumer protection need not come at the expense Wisconsin workers’ ability to support themselves and their family.”
