AFP-VA Announces Plans to Renew Commitment to Policing and Parole Reforms

RICHMOND, Va. – Americans for Prosperity – Virginia (AFP-VA) announced today that the chapter would continue pursuing several criminal justice system reforms like parole reinstatement and qualified immunity into the next session upon the conclusion of the special session.

AFP-VA State Director J.C. Hernandez issued the following statement:

“Now more than ever, breaking down barriers and bridging divides for Virginians who have been disproportionately impacted by our criminal justice system and the pandemic is critical. These qualified immunity and parole reinstatement bills would have allowed us to safely reduce the prison population and uphold due process by pushing for equal application of the law for public employees and citizens alike. We are dedicated to seeing them through to passage.”

AFP-VA Legislative Liaison Benjamin Knotts issued the following statement:

“We appreciate Del. Jeffrey M. Bourne and Sen. John S. Edwards for sponsoring these reforms. We remain committed to working with the General Assembly to advance legislation that improves our criminal justice system by prioritizing human dignity and second chances.”
