Governor’s Office releases new information that risky ballot scheme would actually cost Utah families $865 million dollars

Salt Lake City, UT – Americans for Prosperity-Utah reacted this morning to the Governor’s Office of Management and Budget’s latest fiscal impact projections estimating that the ballot initiative proposed by Our Schools Now would actually cost Utah families $865 million dollars, not the $700 million previously announced by the group.

Americans for Prosperity-Utah state director, Evelyn Everton released the following statement:

“Our Schools Now recently held poorly-attended public hearings at which they drastically misrepresented how much their tax scheme would actually cost Utah families. An income and sales tax increase would devastate low and fixed-income families. We call on lawmakers from across the state to stand against this ballot initiative and rally their communities to oppose signing the petitions Our Schools Now needs in order to make it onto the November 2018 ballot. Defeating this ballot scheme early is the best way to protect Utah’s reputation as an economic powerhouse and ensure that our kids continue to receive the great value our education system currently provides.”
