“We are committed to holding elected officials accountable,” said state director, Evelyn Everton. “The Economic Freedom Scorecard is produced to give taxpayers an inside look at how their State Senator and House members prioritize the issues that will improve the quality of life and long-term prosperity for all Utahns.”

The scores in the Economic Freedom Scorecard are based on AFP-UT’s policy agenda, Prosperity Elevated. This policy platform was established based on promoting greater economic freedom for all Utahns. AFP-UT delivered this policy platform to every member of the legislature before session and throughout the year. The organization also indicates to legislators what policy proposals will be included in the scorecard by expressing support or opposition in Key Vote Letters that each legislator received prior to voting on a particular bill.

Everton continued, “Our scorecard is a labor of love to let the hardworking citizens of this state connect to what their elected officials are doing when they go to the State Capitol for legislative session. It was great to see 16 members earn an A or A+ this year. These legislators were bold and put principles over politics to deliver votes on key issues like stopping an unconstitutional internet sales tax, passed occupational licensing reform, and cut wasteful spending.”

This year’s scorecard contains some new features including: anecdotes from the field where staff and volunteers share some of the reasons why they have joined us in this effort, and a detailed explanation of AFP’s Prosperity Elevated policy platform. Utahns can also access the scorecard through our website www.UtahScorecard.com where they can easily arrive at their individual lawmakers’ grades and download a PDF version of the entire scorecard.

AFP-UT will unveil their 2017 Economic Freedom Scorecard tomorrow, Friday, April 21st at a luncheon in Salt Lake City to honor the 16 Champions & Defenders of Economic Freedom. Speaker of the Utah House of Representatives, Greg Hughes will be awarded the “Courage Under Fire” award. for more information about the luncheon, contact Heather Williamson at HWilliamson@afphq.org
