Austin, TX— Today, at the beginning of National School Choice Week, Americans for Prosperity-Texas (AFP-TX) recommits itself to the cause of freedom in education and calls on state legislators to work diligently and across partisan lines to deliver for Texas students. Parental empowerment in schooling is sweeping the nation, and it’s time that Texas’ leaders caught up.
“Freedom is bigger in Texas, and that’s why we’re working to elect more school choice advocates so we can finally pass Governor Abbott’s landmark Education Savings Account (ESA) bill,” said AFP-TX State Director Genevieve Collins. “After hearing from countless families and students across the state last year who have been let down by failing schools, AFP-TX is more committed than ever to making school choice a reality. As Texas’ premier grassroots organization, we will not rest until our state has an education system as great as its people.”
Last year, Texas came closer than ever to passing legislation supported by Governor Greg Abbott that would create an ESA program, allowing students to receive their state education dollars to pursue the education of their choice. AFP-TX mobilized its grassroots communities across the state in 2023 to fight for ESAs, through one regular session and four special sessions of the state legislature.
