AFP to Nashville Metro: Unacceptable Budget Growth with 32% Tax Hike

Apr 29, 2020 by AFP

Grassroots group calls for Metro to cut reckless spending

NASHVILLE, TN – Following Nashville’s Mayor John Cooper budget proposal, Americans for Prosperity-Tennessee State Director Tori Venable issued the following statement:

“We can’t tax our way out of this budget shortfall. Punishing people with a 32% tax increase is the last thing Nashvillians need during this time.

“Metro has been funding pet pork projects, sweetheart deals, and acting beyond its role for decades, which is irresponsible during the best of times, and left us especially unprepared for economic downturns. Council members have the opportunity to right this ship and reject the reckless spending that put Nashville in this situation. As Nashvillians are forced to cut their budgets, the government must do the same.

“Calling to increase spending by $115,000,000 more over last year alongside a 32% tax increase is unacceptable.”
