White House wants to protect Democrats leading up to midterms, rather than help the American people
Arlington, Va. — Today Americans for Prosperity, the nation’s foremost advocate for health care freedom, offered a response to the latest politically-motivated rule change to ObamaCare.
Last week, in a move that reeks of election-year politics, the Obama administration once again quietly announced even more changes to ObamaCare that would protect the President and his allies from greater political fallout due to years of broken promises.
According to POLITICO, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) will give insurers “broader latitude to adjust the benefits and limits in their policies without considering them canceled. Instead, changes like updating co-pays and deductibles or eliminating annual limits to comply with Obamacare would constitute ‘modifications’ to existing plans, rather than totally new offerings.”
AFP President Tim Phillips said the following: “It’s disappointing that the Obama administration continues to respond to shifting political winds, rather than to the millions of Americans who are being hurt by ObamaCare. Instead of addressing the serious failures of the law, the White House is more interested in tweaking definitions to give themselves political cover in an election year.
“President Obama and other Democrats across the country who assured individuals and families they could keep their existing health care plans under ObamaCare broke their promise — and now millions of Americans are suffering, receiving insurance cancellation notices, and dealing with unwarranted confusion and chaos.
“Americans deserve better than the Obama administration’s backdoor political tactics, which are aimed more at shaping news cycles, rather than finding workable solutions that will help Americans and their families.”
