AFP Reacts to April Jobs Report

Arlington, Va. — Today Americans for Prosperity, the nation’s foremost grassroots advocate for economic freedom, released a statement on the Labor Department’s April 2014 jobs report.

“The April jobs report is no cause for celebration; it’s further evidence that President Obama’s policies continue to wreak havoc on American workers,” AFP President Tim Phillips said. “More than 800,000 frustrated, unemployed Americans gave up on their search for work during the month of April, and 20 million Americans are still desperately seeking jobs. Unfortunately, as more provisions of ObamaCare go into effect, even more Americans will be at risk for unemployment or underemployment”

“If our elected officials want Americans to get back to work, they must start passing pro-growth economic policies that encourage, rather than stifle, job creation.”

The jobs report showed that the unemployment rate fell to 6.3 percent, while 20 million Americans are still searching for work. The labor participation rate fell to its lowest since 1978, with more than 800,000 Americans leaving the workforce.
