|Peters era in Congress has seen $7 trillion in new federal debt, says the group.
LANSING — Americans for Prosperity-Michigan leadership says a new ad by Gary Peters, titled ‘Frugal,’ belies the big spending he enables in Congress.
AFP-Michigan State Director Scott Hagerstrom released the following statement:
“Gary Peters says he’s as frugal as they come, but the facts tell another story. He has consistently supported reckless out-of-control spending that has led to more debt for our country and for Michigan. He’s also opposed efforts to balance the budget. Gary Peters needs to do more than just talk the talk when it comes to being fiscally responsible.”
ALL OF A SUDDEN, GARY PETERS WANTS MICHIGAN TO BELIEVE THAT HE IS FISCALLY RESPONSIBLE
BUT PETERS HAS CONSISTENTLY VOTED IN SUPPORT OF RECKLESS SPENDING THAT HAS INCREASED OUR DEBT
Rep. Peters Voted In Favor Of The 2009 Omnibus Spending Bill, Which Increased Discretionary Spending And Contained Nearly 9,000 Earmarks Totaling Nearly $8 Billion. (H.R.1105, Roll Call Vote 86: R 16-158; D 229-20; NV 8, 2/25/09, Peters Voted Yea. “Obama Calls For Overhaul Of Earmarks,” CNN, 3/11/09)
Between The Stimulus And Omnibus, Rep. Peters Voted To Increase Discretionary Spending From 2008 To 2009 By 26% During His First Two Months Of Office: (Discretionary Budget Authority In 2008 Was $1.179 Trillion, In 2009 Budget Authority Increased To $1.492 Trillion. Rep. Peters Voted For Obamacare, Which CBO Estimates Will Cost $1.8 Trillion Over The Next Ten Years: (Updated Estimates of the Effects of the Insurance Coverage Provisions of the Affordable Care Act, Congressional Budget Office, April 2014)
PETERS HAS ALSO OPPOSED EFFORTS TO GET OUR DEBT UNDER CONTROL
Rep. Peters Voted Against The Cut, Cap, And Balance Act: (H.R. 2560, Roll Call Vote 606: Passed 234-190-8: R 229-9; D 5-181; NV 8, 7/19/11, Peters Voted Nay)
SINCE PETERS FIRST ARRIVED IN WASHINGTON, THE NATIONAL DEBT HAS EXPLODED BY OVER $7 TRILLION
On August 28, 2014, The Total National Debt Was $17.752 Trillion: (“The Debt To The Penny And Who Holds It,” U.S. Treasury, Accessed 9/24/14)
