AFP-NJ Decries Gov. Murphy’s Budget for the 2022 Fiscal Year

TRENTON, N.J. – Americans for Prosperity-New Jersey (AFP-NJ) highlighted the shortcomings of Gov. Murphy’s budget proposal. The grassroots group stressed that with this approach, the governor is likely to fall short on his promise for economic recovery in the short term and will contribute to long term financial instability.

AFP-NJ State Director Tony Howley issued the following statement:

“What Gov. Murphy has proposed is once again unsustainable and reckless. His proposed budget of almost $45 billion would represent a 29 percent increase in state spending since taking office three years ago. He has requested six billion dollars from the federal government, far more money than he or the state knows what to do with. This is evident by his failure to provide a framework on how the state plans to spend it. Instead of throwing more money at a problem, he should be focusing on how the state is going to pay back the over four billion dollars borrowed in the previous fiscal year and a plan to fix the state’s pension system.”
