AFP-NH Praises Qualified Immunity Reform Bill Passing Committee

Mar 2, 2021 by AFP

Concord, NH – Following the House Judiciary Committee passing HB 111, a bill that would reform qualified immunity, a judge made doctrine that shields the government from legal accountability in civil court even when they violate someone’s constitutional rights, Americans for Prosperity-New Hampshire (AFP-NH) Deputy State Director Ross Connolly issued the following statement:

“HB 111 would bring much needed accountability to all government officials. This legislation brings together groups from all over the political spectrum who recognize the need for citizens’ rights to be upheld and defended. With these accountability measures, HB 111 would help to improve Granite Staters’ confidence that they can seek recourse when the government violates their constitutional rights.

“We applaud the House Judiciary Committee for taking this critical step towards ending the two-tiered system of justice that the doctrine of Qualified Immunity creates, and we encourage the House of Representatives to pass HB 111.”
