AFP-ND Launches July 4th Recess Ad Campaign Targeting Wasteful Spending

Bismarck, ND – Americans for Prosperity today announced a digital, direct mail and radio ad campaign holding senators accountable for rejecting President Trump’s rescissions proposal, which would have saved taxpayers about $15 billion in unspent funds from previous years. The ad campaign will target Republican Senators Susan Collins (R-ME) and Richard Burr (R-NC), and Democrat Senators Heidi Heitkamp (D-ND), Joe Donnelly (D-IN), Claire McCaskill (D-MO), Tammy Baldwin (D-WI) and Jon Tester (D-MT) over the 4^th of July holiday recess and will highlight their votes against the modest measure to rein in spending.

AFP-ND state director Mike Fedorchak issued the following statement:

“Time and time again, AFP-ND has called for Washington to rein in its’ love of out-of-control spending. Senator Heitkamp’s failure to cut less than a half cent of every federal dollar certainly costs North Dakotan families. We need to restore fiscal sanity in Washington, so we applaud Congressman Cramer and Senator Hoeven for taking a modest but important first step toward cutting wasteful spending.”

Additionally, AFP-ND’s has also called on Congress to freeze discretionary spending for fiscal year 2019. In a letter sent today to chairs and members of the House and Senate Appropriations committees, Americans for Prosperity urged lawmakers to freeze and then fix federal spending by first holding discretionary spending at FY 2018 levels and then pursuing comprehensive reforms to mandatory spending.
