AFP-MI: Right-to-Work Repeal Will Take Michigan’s Economy Backwards

Lansing, Michigan—The Michigan chapter of Americans for Prosperity issued the following statement from AFP-MI State Director Annie Patnaude in response to policy priorities laid out today by Senate Majority Leader Winnie Brinks and House Speaker Joe Tate.

“Depriving private-sector union members of the freedom to choose whether or not to join a union will harm Michigan workers and also create a chilling effect for businesses that want to invest in our state. Those who work in the private-sector will have less freedom than public-sector employees who currently enjoy this right.

“In 2021, Michigan began to lose population again, we ranked top in the country for small business closures and 6^th for outbound moves. Our state and national economy are at a critical juncture, yet the labor policy agenda laid out by legislative leadership will result in an economic one-two punch that lacks consensus among Michigan voters.”

Background

This year, AFP-MI will be ramping up its in more than a dozen state legislative districts with a multi-media issue advocacy effort and boots-on-the-ground to encourage lawmakers to uphold right-to-work freedom in Michigan.
