AFP-MI Activists Protest Obama’s Policies During Visit to MSU

LANSING, Mich.—Around 50 activists with Americans for Prosperity-Michigan braved subzerowind chills on Friday to protest President Obama’s policies during his visit to Michigan State University in East Lansing. The President focused his remarks on the farm bill and did not mention the health care law—a sign, the group noted, that he’s trying to change the conversation.

“The President may be trying to change the conversation, but our activists are committed to holding policymakers accountable for a law that is hurting millions of Michigan citizens,” said Scott Hagerstrom, state director of Americans for Prosperity-Michigan. “We are rallying to remind the public that President Obama told the ‘Lie of the Year’ to America and has yet to offer an apology.”

Hagerstrom noted that Congressman Gary Peters, who joined the President for the event, also owes Michigan citizens an apology for re-telling the President’s lie. AFP-Michigan just wrapped up a $1 million statewide issue ad buy focused on holding Rep. Peters accountable for his support of Obamacare.

“The consequences of this disastrous health care law continue to pile up,” said Hagerstrom. “Fewer hours, lost jobs, skyrocketing health care costs, cancelled insurance plans and broken promises. Right here in Michigan, 225,000 people had their insurance plans cancelled, and in many cases lost access to the doctors they trust.”

Hagerstrom also noted that the farm bill President Obama signed was bloated and will only contribute to unsustainable rising debt.

“The farm bill signed by President Obama today is corporate welfare plain and simple,” Hagerstrom concluded. “It continues us down the path of reckless spending and debt.”

Americans for Prosperity-Michigan is a statewide organization of more than 88,000 activists committed to strengthening our constitutional government, establishing fiscal restraint, and giving taxpayers greater control over government.
