AFP Launches Million-Dollar Media Blitz Holding Peters Accountable on ObamaCare

LANSING, Mich.—The Michigan chapter of Americans for Prosperity, the nation’s leading grassroots advocate for health care freedom, launched a million-dollar multimedia campaign on Tuesday, aimed at holding U.S. Rep. Gary Peters accountable for his support of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.

Television, radio and online ads launch across the state today and will run for three weeks at a cost of roughly $1 million. The television component will run on both broadcast and cable. Click here to listen to the TV ad.

Scott Hagerstrom, state director of Americans for Prosperity-Michigan said the following:

“Our activists are committed to a long-term effort to stop Obamacare. We’ve made it clear that we will continue to hold politicians accountable for a law that is hurting millions of Americans. This disastrous law has caused hundreds of thousands of Michigan citizens to lose their insurance plans, and in many cases lose affordable access to the doctors they trust. Congressman Peters ought to be held accountable for repeating the ‘Lie of the Year.’ He needs to start thinking about the people this is affecting, rather than the politics surrounding this law. It’s time for a full repeal, not just votes to delay the pain this law causes.”

Politifact: “Lie of the Year: ‘If you like your health care plan, you can keep it.'”, December 12, 2013.

Detroit Free-Press: “Peters queried, not booed, over health care,” August 20, 2009. Peters repeats the lie that, “If you’re covered and you like your insurance, you can keep it.”

Americans for Prosperity has consistently opposed ObamaCare since it began working its way through Congress in 2009.

The ad buy in Michigan represents just a portion of the roughly $20 million the organization has spent on accountability ads, including ads that thank lawmakers who are standing up for their constituents and fighting ObamaCare.

Tens of thousands of activists have already signed AFP’s “Exempt Me, Too!” petition, asking President Obama to give them the same special treatment that Congress and the well-connected have received under the law.

Americans for Prosperity-Michigan is a statewide organization of more than 87,000 activists committed to strengthening our constitutional government, establishing fiscal restraint, and giving taxpayers greater control over government. We are dedicated to recruiting, training, educating and motivating grassroots activists to be effective in their own communities. Americans for Prosperity does not support or oppose candidates for public office.
