AFP Key Vote: YES on H.R. 4775, H.Con. Res. 89 & 112

Jun 6, 2016 by AFP

Dear Representatives:

On behalf of more than 2.8 million Americans for Prosperity activists in all 50 states, I write to you in strong support of three important energy bills being considered on the floor this week.

We urge you to vote YES on the following three bills to protect Americans’ access to affordable and reliable energy. Americans for Prosperity will include this vote in our congressional scorecard.

  • H.R. 4775-Ozone Standards Implementation Act of 2016.  The EPA’s new ozone standard places a tremendous burden on communities across America. The result of a nonattainment designation can be disastrous and bring economic activity to a halt. H.R. 4775 would push back the attainment deadline for states and require economic feasibility to be considered. It would bring much-needed reform to the rulemaking process by changing the review period for Ozone and other emissions from every 5 years to every 10. AFP recently led a coalition of 60 organizations in expressing concern over the new EPA standard.
  • H. Con. Res. 89-Expressing the sense of Congress that a carbon tax would be detrimental to the United States economy. A carbon tax would represent a new tax on 85% of the energy we all use every day, driving up families’ electricity bills and prices at the pump. Research from the Heritage Foundation noted that a $25/ton carbon tax implemented in 2013 would have reduce average household income by an average of $1,400 per year through 2035.
  • H. Con. Res. 112-Expressing the sense of Congress opposing the President’s proposed $10 tax on every barrel of oil.  President Obama’s controversial $10-per-barrel tax on oil would raise $495 billion in tax revenue over 10 years. This tax would lead to an astounding average price increase of 22 cents per gallon of gas on top of the already mandated 18.4 percent federal tax.  This tax would not only wipe out much of the relief of lower prices at the pump, but also disproportionately hurt the lowest earning Americans by raising the prices of home heating and all goods which predominately travel by truck.

We urge you to vote YES on the preceding three bills to protect Americans’ access to affordable and reliable energy. Americans for Prosperity will include this vote in our congressional scorecard.
