AFP Key Vote: Vote YES to Lift Ban On Crude Oil Exports

Oct 9, 2015 by AFP

Dear Representatives,

On behalf of more than 2.8 million Americans for Prosperity activists in all 50 states, I write to urge you to support the repeal of the outdated crude oil export ban.  Lifting the ban would modernize the U.S. energy economy, incite economic growth, and create jobs.

We urge you to vote YES on the legislation that fully lifts the ban on crude oil exports (H.R. 702). Americans for Prosperity will include this vote in our congressional scorecard.

Multiple independent studies confirm these myriad economic benefits. NERA economic consulting estimates that repealing the current law would inject between $600 billion and $1.8 trillion into the domestic economy, and national unemployment would fall by an average of 200,000 jobs between 2015 and 2020. The Aspen Institute found that household income would increase between $2,000 and $3,000 by 2025. The U.S. Energy Information Administration found that repeal would not raise gasoline prices and may even lower them.

We also urge you to oppose efforts to use the legislation as a vehicle to extend handouts for green energy such as the wind production tax credit or the solar investment tax credit.

We urge you to vote YES on the legislation that fully lifts the ban on crude oil exports (H.R. 702). Americans for Prosperity will include this vote in our congressional scorecard.

AFP is proud to support repeal of the crude oil export ban (H.R. 702) as a key element of our Reform America 2015 agenda.
