July 17, 2018

Dear Representatives:

On behalf of over 3.2 million Americans for Prosperity (AFP) activists across the nation, I write urging you to vote YES on the H.Con.Res.119 , expressing the sense of Congress that a carbon tax would be detrimental to the United States economy. This resolution, previously approved in the 114th United States Congress, is necessary for voters to know whether their elected representatives support the implementation of a highly regressive and harmful economy-wide tax.

We urge you to vote YES on H.Con.Res. 119, Expressing the Sense of Congress That a Carbon Tax Would be Detrimental to the United States Economy. Americans for Prosperity will include this vote in our Congressional score card.

A carbon tax is a tax on energy which is used by all Americans and American businesses, consequently, this socially regressive policy would raise home energy bills and gasoline prices for the people who can least afford it and would also raise the cost of goods and services across the board for all Americans, ultimately destroying jobs, making our economy less competitive, and making people’s lives worse.

H.Con.Res. 119 is a significant opportunity for lawmakers to make their position clear on this consequential matter that could have devastating impacts in our nation’s economy and general prosperity. AFP stands ready to work with lawmakers to ensure we continue to protect American consumers, workers and businesses from command and control tax and regulatory schemes that seek to impose new barriers, and undermine our way of life and threaten opportunity for millions of Americans.

We urge you to vote YES on H.Con.Res. 119, Expressing the Sense of Congress That a Carbon Tax Would be Detrimental to the United States Economy. Americans for Prosperity will include this vote in our Congressional score card.
