On behalf of more than 2.8 million Americans for Prosperity activists in all 50 states, I write to urge you to vote YES on repealing the Independent Payment Advisory Board (IPAB) (H.R. 1190) and YES on repealing the Medical Device Tax (H.R. 160). I urge you to vote YES on repealing the Independent Payment Advisory Board (IPAB) (H.R. 1190) and YES on repealing the Medical Device Tax (H.R. 160). Americans for Prosperity will include both of these votes in our congressional scorecard. Under the President’s health care law, unelected and unaccountable bureaucrats in Washington have the power to make Americans’ health care decisions for them. As health care costs climb, a Presidential appointed panel is empowered to make binding recommendations for cuts to Medicare. This is concerning because it takes power away from patients and gives it to government bureaucrats instead. Patients and their doctors should be the ones to make healthcare decisions, not unaccountable bureaucrats in Washington. We should be looking to market forces and consumer choice to control costs and direct health care dollars to their most productive uses, not simply relying on the government to do so. In addition, the United States is the only country on Earth that imposes a tax on the sale of medical devices like heart valves and insulin pumps. As a result, the businesses that make these products are subjected to one of the highest effective tax rates of any industry in the world, crippling medical innovation and increasing the cost of life-saving devices. This tax threatens thousands of jobs and disproportionally harms small businesses. Repealing this tax will lead to greater innovation which in turn will lead to better care for more people at lower cost. I urge you to vote YES on repealing the Independent Payment Advisory Board (IPAB) (H.R. 1190) and YES on repealing the Medical Device Tax (H.R. 160). Americans for Prosperity will include both of these votes in our congressional scorecard. Visit our scorecard online: https://afpscorecard.org/ Sincerely, Brent Wm.
