AFP Key Vote Alert: Oppose Ex-Im Re-Authorization

Jun 3, 2015 by AFP

Dear Senators:

On behalf of more than 2.8 million Americans for Prosperity activists in all 50 states, I write to urge you to vote NO on efforts to reauthorize the Export Import Bank.

I urge you to vote NO on any amendment to the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) (S.1376) that reauthorizes the Export Import Bank. Americans for Prosperity will include this vote in our congressional scorecard.

Americans deserve better than to have their tax dollars used to subsidize loans for politically-connected corporations and to support the culture of corruption that has run rampant at the Export Import Bank. Recently a former Export Import Bank employee pleaded guilty to five bribery charges. According to the Export Import Bank’s Office of Inspector General, there are currently 31 open cases of fraud and even more indictments may be on the way. These criminal cases have put tens of millions of taxpayer dollars at risk over the past decade. Congress should protect taxpayers from this corrupt government agency.

What is more alarming is the fact that Export Import Bank reauthorization is unrelated to the NDAA. These policies are unrelated and should be considered separately. This kind of logrolling is not transparent and is the wrong way for government to do business.

On behalf of Americans for Prosperity and our members across the country I urge you to vote NO on any amendment to the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) (S.1376) that reauthorizes the Export Import Bank. Americans for Prosperity will include this vote in our congressional scorecard.

Sincerely,

Brent Wm. Gardner
