AFP: Gov. McAuliffe is Right to Sign Direct Primary Care Reform

Reforms such as Direct Primary Care, not Medicaid expansion, will increase quality, affordable care for more Virginians

Americans for Prosperity – Virginia (AFP-VA) is encouraged by Governor Terry McAuliffe signing SB 800, which cuts out insurance middlemen and lets patients form “direct primary care” agreements with their doctors. These agreements let Virginians pay their doctor directly for routine services, often at a discount, instead of billing insurance.

AFP-VA Deputy State Director JC Hernandez issued the following statement:

“We are encouraged by Governor McAuliffe signing SB 800, a sensible step toward increasing access to affordable, high-quality healthcare for Virginians. Unfortunately, patients and doctors still face a multitude of burdensome regulations that keep healthcare costs high. We urge Governor McAuliffe to pursue further reforms like SB 800 in the future instead of his costly, perennial Medicaid expansion gambit.”
