Special Session provides opportunity for enacting meaningful change

ST. PAUL, MN – At the outset of Minnesota’s special session, Americans for Prosperity-Minnesota (AFP-MN) today released a letter to lawmakers calling for a fiscally responsible economic recovery, criminal justice reforms, and urging the legislature to reassert its constitutional authority and end the state of emergency.

In the closing days of the regular session, AFP-MN released a guide for lawmakers to help them navigate the challenges ahead following the fiscal and economic crisis caused by COVID-19 and business shutdowns.

AFP-MN State Director Jason Flohrs issued the following statement:

“Minnesotans are hurting – and we need leadership from our elected officials. COVID-19 and government-enforced shutdowns have decimated our economy. Peaceful protests that sprang up in reaction to decades of unjust and racially biased discrimination turned violent and ugly.

“Lawmakers have an opportunity during this extraordinary special session to act quickly to ensure a fiscally responsible path forward that sets the foundation for a strong economy and take steps to end a shameful and pervasive racial double standard within our justice system.

“Minnesotans are ready and willing to make a positive difference, and Americans for Prosperity will continue working to make their voices heard at the state legislature.”
