AFP Applauds State Senators for Sustaining Veto on Pay Raise

Columbia – Today, the state Senate voted 32-10 to sustain Gov. Nikki Haley’s veto of legislative pay hikes.  Americans for Prosperity applauds those 32 who voted to sustain the veto and had the taxpayer’s best interest at heart.

“The majority of the state Senate did the right thing, sustained Gov. Haley’s veto for legislative pay raises and saved taxpayers $1.8 million,” stated Americans for Prosperity South Carolina state director Dave Schwartz. “With many of our roads in disrepair and so many families still dealing with a tough economy, now is not the time to waste millions of taxpayers’ hard-earned dollars on pay raises for legislators.”

Unfortunately, Senators Floyd Nicholson, Ray Cleary and Hugh Leatherman abandoned common-sense South Carolinians and voted to raise their own salaries.  Americans for Prosperity will be holding them accountable by educating South Carolinians about their voting records in the weeks and months to come.
