AFP Applauds New FDA Rule Allowing for Greater Access to Hearing Aids and Spurring Competition

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s new rule will give more Americans access to hearing aids and pave the way for more innovation in the hearing aid market.

Arlington, Va. – Today, Americans for Prosperity issued a statement on a new rule published by the FDA that will help millions of Americans gain access to over the counter hearing aids without a prescription. AFP Senior Health Policy Fellow Dean Clancy said the following:

“This long overdue FDA rule is great news for patients who will no longer need to jump through hoops to obtain hearing aids that improve their quality of life. This rule illustrates how less government interference is the key to improving access to healthcare, spurring innovation, and giving Americans more personalized options to choose from. Rather than pass new government coverage mandates, lawmakers should encourage the FDA to take this same approach when it comes to other medical devices, drugs, therapies, and treatments.”
