AFP Applauds End of Driver’s License Suspensions Over Unpaid Fees in Virginia

Apr 11, 2020 by AFP

Richmond, Va. – Americans for Prosperity-Virginia issued the following statement after Governor Northam signed into law SB1 and HB1196, ending the suspension of driver’s licenses solely for unsettled fines and fees.

AFP-VA State Director JC Hernandez issued the following statement:

“The end of driver’s license suspensions for unsettled fines and fees is a milestone victory for Virginians across the Commonwealth. Permanently ending this excessive practice eliminates barriers which prevented residents from working, paying back overdue fines and improving their lives. We’re grateful to all the grassroots activists who helped us advance this cause and the wide-ranging coalition of partners who boldly took a stand on the issue. We also thank Senator Stanley, Delegate Lopez and other leaders in the legislature as well as Governor Northam for putting the best interest of Virginians first.”
