2012 Economic Freedom Report Ranks U.S. 18 in Economic Freedom

Madison, WI – Americans for Prosperity-Wisconsin, the state’s leading advocate for economic freedom with over 120,000 members in the state, issued the following statement today in reaction to the release of the 2012 Economic Freedom Report, showing the U.S. in a downward spiral, falling out of the top ten and all the way to 18th.

“This report is a critical warning sign of the destructive path America is on,” said Luke Hilgemann, AFP-Wisconsin State Director. “Our country’s loss of economic freedom is not just a threat to the pocketbooks of American households but is also a threat to our health, quality of life, and rights as Americans.

“Countries with higher economic freedom not only enjoy higher incomes, they also have a higher average life expectancy, lower infant mortality, higher rates of reported life satisfaction, and even more political rights and civil liberties.

“This grim report is a harbinger for our country’s future if we don’t address Washington’s irresponsible spending, mounting regulations choking the economy, and unchecked power. I encourage lawmakers at every level to take a very serious look at this report; before our economy and quality of life here in America gets any worse.”
