Statement from AFP-Wisconsin State Director Matt Seaholm
The vote last night was a victory for taxpayers in Wisconsin. Senate Republicans, against strong intimidation by unions and their allies, stood strong in their effort to get Wisconsin back on a path to fiscal sanity. When it became clear that Senate Democrats, who are still hiding in Illinois, had no intention of allowing a vote on this bill by returning to Wisconsin, the remaining Senators stayed to do their jobs and govern the people.
Today, the Assembly will pass legislation that will give local governments the flexibility needed to cut spending. For too long, governments have looked for more taxpayer money. Because of the leadership of Governor Walker and Republicans in the Legislature, the debate is now about how to cut instead of how to spend. We look forward to continuing that debate in Wisconsin.
