Tell Senators Warner & Webb that the EPA’s Utility MACT Rule Threatens Electric Reliability and Virginians’ Wallets

June 05, 2012

As you may know, this past February the EPA published its finalized Mercury and Air Toxics rule (commonly called “Utility MACT”) in the Federal Register. The rule requires coal and oil-fired power plants to install expensive scrubbers or other equipment to reduce emissions of mercury, nine other metals, and three acid gases by 91 percent within three years. The rule has been identified as the most costly in U.S. history, and it must be stopped.

Fortunately, Sen. Jim Inhofe (R-Okla.) introduced a resolution of disapproval to overturn the rule using the Congressional Review Act. If S.J.Res. 37 is passed by Congress and signed by the President, the rule will be overturned and EPA will have to go back to the drawing board. We need your help in making this happen!

On Thursday, June 7th, we’re launching a statewide grassroots lobbying effort in Virginia. We’re asking that activists join with us in lobbying at both Senator Warner and Senator Webb’s district offices from 10am-12pm.

Below you will find the address and time of where we will be. We only ask that you RSVP by e-mailing acelotto@afphq.org so that we can get a head count on who is going.
