Jobs, not lawsuits...
As you may have heard, a company founded by Virginia gubernatorial candidate Terry McAuliffe is suing the conservative watchdog, Franklin Center, over an investigative report which highlights GreenTech Automotive’s use of a controversial government “cash-for-visas” immigration program.
The green company claims that they’ve suffered an alleged $85-million loss after publication of two articles detailing the woes of the government immigration program, called EB-5. In one article, a financial expert criticized the EB-5 program as “a fraud.” EB-5 has repeatedly come under fire for lax oversight – most recently the subject of a Securities and Exchange Commission probe in Illinois.
Here’s a little background info…
In their first phase, GreenTech promised that it would “Invest $1 Billion, Employ 1,500 and Produce 150,000 Cars Annually.” Instead, GreenTech employs 70 people – that’s right, 70, not 1,500. Here’s what the Wall Street Journal had to say earlier this month about GreenTech:
“…there is no evidence the company is manufacturing any cars in volume. It is operating out of a temporary site and has yet to begin building its flagship factory. GreenTech is the latest proof (after Solyndra, Fisker, A123 and others) that the political class is adept at hooking up cronies and investors with taxpayer dollars. But creating jobs? No can do.” (Kimberly Strassel, Op-Ed, “Terry McAuliffe’s Solyndra,” The Wall Street Journal, 4/11/13)
Virginia needs more jobs, not lawsuits…Terry McAuliffe promised jobs to Mississippi residents and broke his promise. At a time when the whole country is in such dire financial strains, the last thing we need is more empty promises from politicians. As you know, Americans for Prosperity was on the forefront of opposing government-funded green energy disasters like Solyndra – and we’ll continue to do so.
Virginians deserve better, so be sure to call Terry to let him know that you want policy proposals that will create jobs right here in the Commonwealth of Virginia. He can be reached at: (703) 822-7604.
As always, thank you for all that you do for liberty…we’re honored to stand beside you in the fight to turn our economy around.
