How many days do you have to work to pay your taxes?
The answer will suprise you. Virginian’s work 110 days just to pay their federal and state taxes. Tomorrow is Tax Freedom Day! The day when you begin to work for yourself instead of to pay taxes.
According to a study by the Tax Foundation, Virginia’s Tax Freedom Day will come April 20th, two days later than the national Tax Freedom Day.
Even worse, Virginians must work longer than the national average to meet the tax obligations leveled on them by government at all levels. It is outrageous that the recent legislative session did not lessen the tax burden on the Commonwealth’s citizens.
As you know, the federal government is trapped in an unenviable cycle of out-of-control spending, taxation and debt. When it comes to economic freedom, Virginia should not be lagging behind the federal government. This later date is discouraging proof that economic policies are failing the hard-working families in Virginia. We need policies that provide tax relief, create jobs and increase competitiveness, and we need them now.
This coming week the U.S. Senate will take up a bill that will allow states to tax online internet sales from companies in other states, shifting the tax collection burden onto out-of-state businesses. The cost of complying with the Internet Sales Tax would be an enormous burden on businesses, especially small businesses. Please join us in opposing this bill!
Thank you for all that you do to stand for freedom!
