Governor McDonnell is taking a stand for our state’s taxpayers and healthcare consumers by rejecting the Obama Administration’s request to set up a state-based health insurance exchange. Exchanges raise prices on consumers and increase taxes on hardworking families.

Multiple governors have announced this week that they will not create an exchange, despite the short-term promises of federal tax dollars. When the federal dollars dry up in two years, states will take the hit for the full costs of their exchange, adding millions of dollars to Virginia’s tax burden. By joining the growing number of states that have rejected exchanges, McDonnell is showing real leadership and placing the needs of Virginia’s taxpayers above short-term political benefits.
