AMERICANS FOR PROSPERITY REACTS TO NEW EPA RULES
Time for Virginia’s Congressional Delegation to Stand Up to Administration
ARLINGTON – Today Americans for Prosperity – Virginia called on the Congressional delegation to block the new carbon regulations released by the EPA, which calls for a 30 percent reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2030. The regulations will be particularly burdensome in Virginia, where coal produces more than a fourth of the state’s electricity.
A recent report from the US Chamber of Commerce found that the proposed rule will destroy 60,000 jobs in the region and hundreds of thousands of jobs nationally, based on its assumptions on a similar proposal by the Natural Resources Defense Council.
AFP – Virginia State Director Sean Lansing released the following statement:
“It’s time for our Congressional delegation to exercise the commonsense that is lacking in the Obama EPA. We need our U.S. Senators and Representatives to say no to the ideologically-driven, job killing policies being forced on our country by the EPA. These rules will have a particularly devastating impact on the Virginians who are employed in coal and the many more who heat and cool their homes through coal power. Making matters worse, the EPA’s proposal comes just days after we learned that the economy actually shrank during the last quarter for the first time in three years.
“The real tragedy is that the administration admits the regulations are “unlikely” to have any meaningful impact on the environment. The Obama EPA is apparently willing to destroy jobs just for the sake of ideological opposition to carbon-based energy.”
