AFP-VA Legisaltive Agenda

January 26, 2012 J

2012 Policy Agenda

Support a Virginia budget which will include no tax increases, reduces spending levels and suggest various program cuts:

• Elimination of redundant state agencies and commissions all while making government smaller and more efficient. (SJ66 / HJ49)

• State pension (VRS) reform (HB1129 / HB1130)

Support Property Rights:

• A Constitutional Amendment to protect private property. (SJ3 / HJ3)

• Makes incorporation of urban development areas optional rather than mandatory. Any locality that has previously adopted urban development areas may, and upon voter petition shall, reconsider such action. (SB 274 / HB92 / HB794 / HB869)

• Allow landowners to hunt on their own property on Sundays. Also, this bill would allow persons who have the written permission of the landowner to hunt on the landowner's property on Sundays. (SB173 / HB369)

Obama’s Electronic Medical Records Requirements Already Causing Job Loss

January 10, 2012 J

Via BigGovernment.com:

While the Old Media has been ecstatic over recent job numbers, claiming that some 200,000 jobs have been added to the economy, we should note that while Obama giveth Obama also taketh away. The media may be trying to claim the President has “created or saved” jobs (the latest weasel word is he’s created job opportunity) but his policies have also cost jobs. In particular his policies are costing jobs in the medical field.

Radical greens threaten Virginia jobs

When the Virginia legislature returns this month, it will have its hands full helping generate jobs in the Old Dominion. It can start by defending Virginia employers in the crosshairs of an extremist anti-jobs campaign.

Radical environmental activists have targeted Strasburg-based Mercury Paper Co. for shutdown. A campaign by Greenpeace is pressuring local businesses to boycott Mercury. If successful, the boycott would cripple the company and eliminate hundreds of jobs.

It's a textbook example of how to make a bad economic situation worse. Worst of all, even if successful, the campaign would do nothing to help the environment.
