AFP-VA to Hold Energy Town Hall Meetings

June 27, 2011

– Rep. Morgan Griffith to Give Report from House Energy Committee –

Americans for Prosperity – Virginia (AFP-VA) will hold two town hall meetings to discuss energy policy, EPA regulation and spiraling energy costs. AFP-VA will hold the town hall meetings on Tuesday, June 28, 2011 in Covington and Thursday, June 30, 2011 in Bluefield. Congressman Morgan Griffith (9th District) will be the special guest and give a report from the House Energy Committee, of which he is a member.

Recently, American Electric Power announced it will shut down several coal-fired power plants, including one in Giles County, simply to be able to afford compliance with new regulations from President Obama’s Environmental Protection Agency. The closure will mean the loss of hundreds of jobs in the region and a dramatic increase in energy bills for all consumers.

Since President Obama took office, gas prices have nearly doubled. The administration refuses to develop American energy sources that could help gas prices, electricity prices, and food prices come down. AFP believes in energy, all forms of it – but we need to restrain the EPA.

All citizens are invited to join AFP-VA and sign a petition to the President to call off his dogs and allow energy production in America – and especially Southwest Virginia – to proceed.

AFP-VA state director Trixie Averill issued the following statement:

“When he was on the campaign trail, Barack Obama infamously said he would bankrupt the coal industry, and this is at least one promise on which he’s following through. The Administration’s vendetta against energy resources is astounding. They’re against coal, oil, nuclear – they’re seemingly against everything but windmills.

“The administration’s policies amount to being against the American family. If energy prices are high, then the costs of goods and services are high, electric bills are high, gas prices are high. Families will feel the pinch.”

“The Obama Administration and the EPA should let American ingenuity and entrepreneurism loose to unleash the free market from governmental shackles.”
