Taxpayer-funded lobbying ban gets a new ally

June 01, 2012

We at AFP have long advocated a ban on use of our tax dollars to pay lobbyists to lobby for more of our tax dollars.

Millions of tax dollars are spent to line the pockets of lobbyists and lobby associations which then advocate for more spending and higher taxes.

We have an eloquent and powerful ally in this fight with Chuck DeVore, a senior fellow for fiscal policy at the Texas Public Policy Foundation

He wrote in the Houston Chronicle:

“Paying to lobby for more government spending with taxpayer dollars should be outlawed. If a local school board or city council wants more state assistance, they should ask for it the old fashioned way and seek a meeting with their representatives in the Texas Legislature.”

We agree – thanks, TPPF and Chuck DeVore!
