You can’t take back America if you can’t take City Hall
While many citizens are focused on what is going on in Washington, D.C., few are paying attention to what is happening in their own back yard.
That is precisely what Texas Comptroller Susan Combs has done as she has shed light on local government spending, debt and unfunded public pension liabilities. Texans are taking notice. And we at Americans for Prosperity Foundation – Texas will be honoring Comptroller Combs with the first Trailblazer for Transparency Award at an event Nov 8 in Austin. The event is called “All Politics is Local” and will launch a multi-year effort in Texas to engage more citizens in local government policymaking decisions.
It’s time to take off the blinders and address the biggest issue that we face in Texas– local governments are over $320,000,000,000 in debt. We are leaving our children and grandchildren a legacy – a legacy of debt, not the legacy most of us want to leave them.
The opportunity to achieve the American Dream may not be within reach of future generations.
This will be the first generation of Americans who will be left worse off than previous generations. While Americans are focused on the national debt, few are aware of local government debt.
Local officials often learn to over-tax, over-spend and over-regulate and are rewarded by being elected to higher office. They take those skills directly to the State Capitol and to Washington, D.C.
Citizens can take back local governments by simply showing up, paying attention, working with local officials and serving as citizen watchdogs. We’ll honor Comptroller Combs and share information on how to take City Hall – and County Commissioners Court – and School Boards. Let’s get local!
We hope to see you there – register now. Seating is limited!
