Richardson Citizens Call for Direct Election of their Mayoral Seat

July 11, 2012 J

The citizens of Richardson were heard loud and clear on July 5, 2012 when they submitted a petition calling for the direct election of the Richardson Mayor.

“I am so proud of the outpouring of support we received in this endeavor, and how we have brought attention to an issue in which all Richardson citizens must be engaged. I would like to thank those who took the time to sign the petition and make their voice heard,” said Alan North, chair of Richardson Citizens For A More Democratic Government.

So much outpouring support, in fact, that they were able to garner double the amount of required signatures needed for the petition, representing households totaling 9,500 of the registered voters.

We are proud to see citizens truly taking action in their communities and fighting for the right to not only choose who they are government by, but how much government they want and are willing to pay for.

The city government has 10 days to review the petition before approving the proposed charter amendment language for the general election ballot on November 6, 2012.
