Is a UT Grad Smarter Than a Fifth-Grader?

Some Texas Exes may need to go back to school.

The Alcalde is a publication of the University of Texas Alumni. They have posted an article on tuition deregulation on Texas. Unfortunately, the piece has errors which a 5th grader should not make.  Maybe the publication lacks an editor?

We all make mistakes. But when writing for higher education, simple grammar errors leave readers scratching their heads. What are they teaching at UT?

Here is the test: can you find the errors in the following sentences?

State Sen. Rodney Ellis (D-Houston) he revived the discussion of tuition re-regulation.

Members have indicated that their may be increased support in the upcoming session.

A decade ago, the Legislature shiftied the responsibility for setting tuition prices at Texas public universities to the institutions themselves.

At the same time, tuition and fees has offset state support, rising from three percent in 1985 to 25 percent today.
