AFP-Texas Names New State Director

Former Bush White House Staffer will take over from Peggy Venable.

AUSTIN, TX – Americans for Prosperity, the nation’s foremost grassroots advocate for economic freedom, announced leadership changes in the organization’s Texas chapter on Friday.

Mike Hasson has been named Texas State Director to replace Peggy Venable, who was elevated to a new role as AFP’s Senior States Policy Advisor.  Venable, who served as Texas State Director for 10 years, will remain in Austin as she assumes responsibility for shaping policy and legislative priorities in both Texas and other state chapters.

“Texas has become a model state for enacting the types of policies that spread prosperity by promoting economic freedom and opportunity for every American,” said AFP President Tim Phillips. “Over the last decade, Texas has consistently been one of the best states in which to live, work and raise a family. Its top ranking for job growth, wage growth, business climate and affordable cost of living are the result of policies every AFP chapter is promoting. Peggy will be a valuable resource to other state chapters working to achieve similar results.”

Prior to joining AFP-Texas, Hasson spent five years as Director of Business Communications for United Development Funding (UDF). UDF is a national company based in Dallas-Fort Worth that provides financing for the development and construction of affordable, single-family homes through a family of public and private funds. Previously, Hasson served in the Office of the Staff Secretary under President George W. Bush. Hasson is an alumnus of the University of Dallas.

“Mike Hasson possesses a combination of business and political experience which will serve AFP-Texas well as we continue working to expand economic freedom and opportunity in the Lone Star State and across the country,” Phillips said.

New State Director Hasson also had the following to say:

“Texas’ post-recession economic performance is often referred to as a miracle, but it’s only a miracle to those who have not been watching two decades of economic expansion in Texas. It is a trend of both prosperity and resilience that is the result of enacting prudent policies that reflect a belief in the dignity of every person and a confidence that Texas households are better stewards of their hard-earned money than government is. I am grateful for Peggy’s leadership and our entire network of activists for their tremendous work and dedication to policies of individual liberty and empowerment.

“Last month, the President of the Dallas Federal Reserve described Texas as a ‘state of mind where people are ready to work and get things done for the betterment of their families, communities, cities and beyond.’ AFP-Texas shares that goal and our activists share that description. We will not rest as long as there is more work to do, and I am excited to lead this premier grassroots organization as we advocate for the well-being of every Texan.”

AFP is a national organization with 30 state chapters across the country and over 2.2 million activists.
