AFP Announces “Merry Taxmas” Citizen Engagement Initiative
Releases list of nine “naughty and nice” legislators
Arlington, VA- Today, Americans for Prosperity (AFP), the nation’s leading grassroots advocate for economic freedom, announced the release of a new Lame Duck initiative aimed at pressuring Congress to refrain from raising taxes. The effort, “Merry Taxmas” presents AFP’s initial list of naughty and nice legislators and utilizes social media to spread the message against tax increases and wasteful big-government spending.
“This site is an entertaining, witty, initiative that engages Americans on the lame duck issues in a new way,” said AFP President Tim Phillips. “We’re always looking for new and innovative ways to help activists engage, and Merry Taxmas fully integrates social media and citizen activism to urge Members of Congress to do the right thing.”
To find out more about this effort please visit www.MerryTaxmas.org.
The legislators on the “naughty” list are Senators Saxby Chambliss, Bob Corker, Dick Durbin, Lindsey Graham, and Patty Murray and Representatives Tom Col, Peter DeFazio, Pete King and Chris Van Hollen.
The legislators on the “nice” list are Senators Jim DeMint, Pat Toomey, Jeff Sessions and Rand Paul as well as Representatives Scott Garrett, Jim Jordan, Mick Mulvaney, Mike Pompeo and Steve Scalise. More members will be added to both lists as the Lame Duck negotiations progress.
At www.MerryTaxmas.org citizens are also encouraged to send a personal message to their legislator asking them “not to be a Grinch this holiday season and to keep their promise to not raise taxes.”
AFP has strongly advocated for Congress to honor their promise to the American people to keep taxes low and on the sequestration cuts. AFP has been providing activists with tools to get informed on lame duck issues and take action via the website, www.NoFreeVotes.com.
