Liberals are at it again

May 17, 2011

Liberals in the Senate want to support an energy tax hike during a vote TONIGHT.

The Senate moved its vote on the Menendez bill, legislation that singles out oil and gas companies to pay higher tax rates for domestic production, and the potential to double-tax foreign investment. What this means to us in Tennessee, we will be paying even more for gas at the pump.

Frankly, it’s highly unlikely that our Senators, Lamar Alexander and Bob Corker, would vote for this. But, we do need you to show our elected officials that Tennesseans reject the efforts of the Left.

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce pointed out this policy of targeting energy companies has failed in the past, “Our nation raised taxes on this same industry in the 1980s and there were consequences: gasoline costs went up and our imports of foreign oil increased by 13%.”

President Obama and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid want to increase taxes on energy that will hurt already struggling families and small-businesses. When Tennesseans are already starring at prices reaching $4 a gallon, this just proves how out of touch politicians in Washington are.

Now leaders in D.C. want more of your hard earned money.

Call Sens. Alexander and Corker today to tell them you reject the Menendez Bill because we simply cannot afford higher taxes.

Oil and gas companies will not absorb the higher taxes, they will do what John Kerry did, move their operations abroad. Last year, to avoid high taxes in Massachusetts, Sen. Kerry (D-Mass.) decided to register the sale of his yacht in Rhode Island. High taxes are not sound tax policy, they drive businesses and people away.

The Menendez bill and Obama’s energy policy of higher and higher taxes is not good for America’s economy and it’s not good for Tennessee families. These proposed energy tax increases will result in job loss, stalled capital investment and threaten American energy security. Tell our Senators you support their rejection of these tax hikes.
