NASHVILLE — Americans for Prosperity is applauding Governor Haslam today for signing landmark legislation into law. The Stop ObamaCare Act, which the group supported, was approved in both houses with overwhelming majorities. The act requires legislative approval before a governor can expand Medicaid under the Affordable Care Act.
AFP- TN state director Andrew Ogles released the following statement:
“Our Governor Bill Haslam and the state legislature are leading the way for other states to stop further implementation of ObamaCare. We appreciate the leadership of Governor Haslam, Senators Kelsey and Johnson, and Representatives Durham and Sargent on this issue.
“This is legislation other states can adopt to take a stand against an overreaching federal government and say no to President Obama’s radical policies.”
Rep. Jeremy Durham, who sponsored the act in the House added, “Today is a great day for Tennessee taxpayers. The legislature and Governor Haslam said ‘yes’ to fiscal responsibility, and ‘thanks, but no thanks’ to Barack Obama and Washington, D.C.”
AFP believes Tennessee needs state-based solutions for healthcare like the state previously had with CoverTN. Governor Bill Haslam sought a waiver from the federal government to allow a state-controlled version of Medicaid expansion.
