Tax Freedom Day Will Not Arrive in PA Until April 17
PHILADELPHIA – Americans for Prosperity PA, the state’s largest free market grassroots organization with more than 120,000 members, is expressing disappointment today that Pennsylvania will not reach Tax Freedom Day until April 17 according to rankings released by the non-partisan Tax Foundation.
“It is outrageous that Pennsylvania taxpayers must work until April 17 to pay off their tax burden and begin taking home some of their hard-earned money to pay their bills and support their families,” said Jennifer Stefano, state director of Americans for Prosperity-Pennsylvania. “As working families across Pennsylvania continue to tighten their belts and make tough decisions, they should expect their state government to do the same. That is why we need to cut tax rates and shrink the tax code as recently suggested by Governor Corbett.”
National Tax Freedom Day this year will arrive on April 18, five days later than in 2012. The Tax Foundation’s report is available at www.TaxFreedomDay.org.
“The federal government is trapped in an unenviable cycle of out-of-control sending, taxation and debt. Pennsylvania’s Tax Freedom Day falls just one day before the National Tax Freedom Day. When it comes to economic freedom, we should be more than one step ahead and more than one day ahead of the federal government in Pennsylvania,” added Stefano. “This is discouraging proof that economic policies are failing the hard-working families in Pennsylvania. We need policies that provide tax relief, create jobs and increase competitiveness and we need them now.”
