Stop Medicaid Expansion in Pennslvania
AFP-PA Urges Senators to Oppose Scarnati Medicaid Plan
“Irresponsible from both a moral and economic perspective,” says state director.
HARRISBURG – Americans for Prosperity – Pennsylvania is urging members of the state senate to oppose the Medicaid expansion plan supported by Senate President Pro Tempore Joe Scarnati.
“Expanding a failing program with borrowed federal dollars is just irresponsible from both a moral and economic perspective; yet that is exactly what Senator Scarnati is proposing by supporting the expansion of Medicaid,” stated Jennifer Stefano, state director of Americans for Prosperity-PA.
Stefano cited several studies which have demonstrated that Medicaid recipients have worse health outcomes than the uninsured including a study by the University of Virginia which showed that Medicaid surgical patients are 13 percent more likely to die than those without insurance and 97 percent more likely to die than those with private insurance. In addition, a study published in Cancer shows people over the age of 65 who are insured by Medicaid have a greater risk of late-stage diagnosis of various cancers, and therefore are at greater risk of death than even the uninsured.
“We encourage Senator Scarnati to use his leadership position to protect the working families of this state along with the poor and sick, rather than further burdening them with a failing entitlement program,” added Stefano. “We urge the Senator Scarnati and all members of the state senate to reject the Obamacare Medicaid expansion plan.”
