PRESS CONFERENCE at PHILADELPHIA CITY HALL (JFK Blvd Side), 6PM – TONIGHT – THURSDAY, JAN. 31.
Justice for the Poor – Fairness for Pennsylvania’s Working Families
*Philadelphia doctors and AFP-PA activists gather at Philadelphia City Hall to call on Governor Corbett to protect Pennsylvania’s Medicaid recipients by rejecting federal Medicaid expansion scam*
PHILADELPHIA — Americans for Prosperity – Pennsylvania will hold a press conference with Phildelphia doctors later today.
WHERE: Philadelphia City Hall (JFK Boulevard side, in front of the north courtyard portal)
WHEN: Thursday, January 31, 6PM
WHO: Americans for Prosperity-PA State Director Jennifer Stefano; and members of the Philadelphia medical community
The principals will discuss why Medicaid is failing the very people it is intended to help and why Governor Corbett and our legislators should not expand the program unless the federal government grants Pennsylvania a waiver, as it has other states, to determine the most effective ways to cover those in need of care.
Pennsylvania currently covers nearly 20 percent of its citizens (2.8 million people) at a cost of $8.2 billion in 2012, representing approximately one-third of the state’s annual budget. Last summer’s Supreme Court ruling regarding the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, Obamacare, made expansion of the program optional.
“The Medicaid expansion proposed by the federal government is a scam,” says State Director Jennifer Stefano. “Thirty percent (30%) of doctors will not take new Medicaid patients. Even more upsetting, Medicaid patients can have worse health outcomes than if they had no insurance at all.”
Stefano continues, “We call on Governor Corbett to protect the poor, sick and neediest in Pennsylvania by refusing to participate in the federal Medicaid expansion program.
“Pennsylvania should not be expanding programs that make people sicker. We call on the Governor to stand strong for the poor and to focus on results instead of intentions.”
