PITTSBURGH, PA Americans for Prosperity, the premier free market grassroots mobilizing group, today launched a nationwide radio campaign targeting Representative Charlie Dent (R-PA-15) and other Congressional Republicans. Despite their rhetoric to the contrary, these powerful appropriators are failing to cut enough in the first minibus appropriations bill to prevent billions of dollars worth of spending increases.
Pennsylvanias taxpayers are tightening their belts and expect Congress to do the same, but Representative Charlie Dent is supporting an appropriations bill that could outspend Congress in the days when Pelosi ran the House, said AFP-PA Spokesperson Jennifer Stefano. Dent sits on the House Appropriations Committee, where he is responsible for determining how Congress allocates taxpayer dollars. Rather than cut spending as recommended by the House-passed Paul Ryan Budget, Rep. Dent is pushing spending even higher.
The House and the Senate will be voting on the first in a series of appropriations packages this week which will fund various federal departments over the course of this year (FY2012). A number of House Republicans including Representative Dent are planning on passing a series of bills that will push spending levels higher than ever before.
Pennsylvanias taxpayers are tightening their belts and expect Congress to do the same. But now, Representative Charlie Dent is supporting an appropriations bill that could outspend the Nancy Pelosi-led Congress that was ousted for this very reason in 2010. Stefano continued.
AFPs radio campaign will air close to $50,000 in ads to put pressure on House Republicans on the Appropriations Committee in five states: Florida, Missouri, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Virginia. It is accompanied by an earned media push, tele-townhalls, and calls-to-action to AFPs membership.
