Americans for Prosperity-Oklahoma Commends Governor Stitt For Signing Bill to Reduce Burdensome Red Tape

Apr 12, 2021 by AFP

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK — Today, Americans for Prosperity-Oklahoma commended Governor Kevin Stitt for signing into law S.B. 913, a transformative bill that will provide for a more expedited review of state regulations and give the Legislature additional oversight of agency rules. AFP-OK continues to work closely with Governor Stitt to reduce regulations and foster a culture of a “customer-focused” state government.

AFP-OK State Director John Tidwell issued the following statement:

“AFP-OK applauds Governor Stitt and the Legislature for their important work to cut burdensome red tape. SB913 will help ensure that state regulations follow the legislature’s intent, are not duplicative, and give those we elect more influence over the rulemaking process. Many times a rule’s original purpose is sidelined by what benefits the bureaucracy; this can stifle innovation and hinder growth of our economy, creating a burden on our citizens. This new Joint Committee on Administrative Rules will allow a more customer-focused state government and benefit Oklahoma citizens for generations to come. We look forward to continuing to work with Governor Stitt to take steps to reduce unnecessary administrative burdens and put us that much closer to being a Top Ten State.”

Background:

S.B. 913 will update Oklahoma’s Administrative Procedures Act to create a Joint Committee of Administrative Rules (JCAR) that will oversee a new process to quickly reduce duplicative or onerous state regulations. Under the new process, the committee will review new regulations or requests to repeal existing regulations and make recommendations to the full state legislature.
