AFP Launches Ads Urging Rep. Lucas to End Wind Energy Subsidy
Wind energy industry should compete in marketplace, says state director Tidwell
Oklahoma City – Americans for Prosperity – Oklahoma, the state’s largest free-market, grassroots organization in support of a consumer-driven energy market, is urging Congressman Frank Lucas to join a group of lawmakers committed to allowing the wind production tax credit (PTC) to expire at the end of the year.
AFP is running online ads urging Lucas not to support any further extension of the credit, which has been handed to the wind energy industry for more than twenty years. Materials related to the effort can be found at GoneWithTheWindPTC.com.
“Congress should simply take no action to let this industry crutch disappear automatically,” said AFP-Oklahoma State Director John Tidwell. “This subsidy has allowed the wind energy industry to rest on its laurels for decades without providing a competitive product. Green energy mandates mean these alternative energy sources don’t have to innovate to become real energy solutions for Oklahoma.”
“Two decades is long enough to remain reliant on the federal government with no reason to innovate,” said Americans for Prosperity President Tim Phillips. ”Congress should do nothing and allow this subsidy to expire on schedule.”
AFP is leading a diverse group of more than 100 stakeholder organizations with one thing in common: they agree this tax break does nothing to make wind a viable alternative energy source in the marketplace.
