Help us urge Gov. Kasich to oppose Medicaid

March 20, 2013

I don’t like to sound the fire alarm, but today I need your help. The state legislature will soon consider legislation to expand Medicaid – railroading hundreds of thousands of Ohioans onto a broken system and adding to unsustainable spending.

Please send a message today to Governor Kasich and the State Legislature telling them not to expand Medicaid.

Ohio can do better, but some politicians want to score political points rather than doing the hard work of reforming Medicaid and offering a better service for our poorer neighbors.

Want to go a step further? Call the Ohio House of Representatives at 1-800-282-0253 and the Ohio Senate at 1-800-282-0253 and tell your senator and representative not to expand Medicaid. Here’s the key facts:

· Medicaid patients are seven times more likely to be rejected from a family physician than privately-insured patients (and 8.5 times more likely to be rejected by internists).
· Thirty-one percent of doctors do not accept new Medicaid patients.
· Long term, expanding the program is an unaffordable option for the state.

According to the Kaiser Family Foundation, Ohio’s cost for expansion is $4 billion by the end of 2022.

Ohio legislators should not make a broken system worse by expanding the Medicaid system. Adding hundreds of thousands of Ohioans to the program without substantial reform is exactly the wrong policy for the Buckeye State.

Please join us in contacting Governor John Kasich and state legislators and urge them to reject any expansion of the Medicaid system in Ohio.
